French framebuilders of the late 70s and early 80s were exacting about stem dimensions. The BELRI COURSE quill stem answered with a 21.9 mm steerer fit, a 25 mm bar clamp, and an 85 mm forward reach—a combination found on countless Peugeot, Motobécane, and Gitane team bikes. The 85 mm reach sits between the ultra-short 60–70 mm stems often seen on city bikes and the longer 100 mm+ stems of full-on racing machines. It delivers a responsive front end without sacrificing too much comfort—ideal for a fast clubman’s road bike or a lightweight touring rig built to period spec. The quill diameter of 21.9 mm was standard on many French forks (look for the stamp on the steerer tube), while the 25 mm clamp fits classic drop bars from Mafac, Philippe, Guidons, or similar.
